Radiation

Hello there. It's Jana - I haven't written in a while, mostly due to the fact that it feels like I'm working over 14 hours a day - from 7AM-3PM at Frazier, from 3PM to 9PM at the studio and then back again. Dad forgot to mention that along with the entire reconstructive surgery on Brian's elbow, he will also need a few rounds of radiation therapy, one immediately before surgery and a couple after the surgery is complete. The radiation is usually very effective in cases of heterotopic ossification to prevent further bone growth. In Brian's case, it will be used to prevent the body from reforming any bone after the surgery has been completed. Brian's first question was about losing his hair and I quickly explained that radiation is site-specific & he may lose his hair and have some skin sensitivity but only on where the radiation is performed - his elbow. Radiation and chemotherapy are often used jointly in cancer patients, but chemotherapy is what causes the loss of all body hair. All in all, Brian may very well be able to still have a little summer and early fall to fish and I will gladly take him wherever he wants to go.
